Ngaawa-Garay Girramubang Ngiyambalgarra* Summer School of 2009

Ngaawa - Garay Girramubang Ngiyambalgarra, The Summer School for Gamilaraay, Gumbaynggirr and Wiradjuri Languages will be held from Monday 12th through to Friday 16th January 2009, for Beginners. As a follow-up to the Summer School held in January 2008, Advanced courses in Gumbaynggirr, Gamilaraay and Wiradjuri will be held from Wednesday 14th through to Friday 16th January 2009.

These are intensive courses aiming to develop speaking skills in the languages, and will be quite demanding. On completing the course students will receive a Statement of Attainment issued by Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co-operative. The Gumbaynggirr course will be based on the Certificate II in Gumbaynggirr Language and Culture Maintenance which is taught at Muurrbay and accredited by VETAB. The Gamilaraay course will be based on 'Speaking Gamilaraay' which is offered at University of Sydney and at the New England Institute of TAFE.

Ngaawa-Garay has been funded by the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and also supported by the Koori Centre at the University of Sydney and the former Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) now known as Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.
